Lavender is an evergreen perennial shrub plant.
Its purple flowers, which open in late spring, last until the beginning of autumn.
Although it is a native species of the Mediterranean, it is also cultivated in Europe and Western America.
The use of lavender dates back thousands of years.
The first written record of mummification was found in Egypt.
Lavender, which is widely used in Greek and Roman culture, has been especially included in bathrooms, dishes, perfumes, wound healing and insect repellent mixtures.
The use that gives lavender its name, derived from the Latin word "lavaren" (to bathe), is the Roman perfume after bath. Lavender, which is a sweet and floral aroma, is used in sauces, while preparing bread, dessert and meat.
